The competition

Since 2023-24, Ligue 1 has 18 clubs and 34 rounds. The bottom two are relegated to Ligue 2, and the club in 16th plays a two-legged play-off against a side from the second tier. Clubs level on points are separated by goal difference.

Paris Saint-Germain have dominated the last decade and hold the record for titles, ahead of Saint-Étienne. The competition behind them, for the Champions League and Europa League places, involves clubs such as Marseille, Monaco, Lille, Lyon and Nice, and often stays open until the final weekend.

Ligue 1 is a young league: many clubs build around players in their early twenties, which makes form swing more than in older squads. The previews look at the last eight games rather than the season as a whole, and at how each team's numbers change against the top half of the table.
